Orienteering Solitude Ski Resort

Orienteering at Solitude Ski Resort. FOSTER Family
What is Orienteering?

It is a family of sports that requires navigational skills using a map and compass to navigate from point to point in diverse and usually unfamiliar terrain, and normally moving at speed. Participants are given a topographical map, usually a specially prepared orienteering map, which they use to find control points.[1] Originally a training exercise in land navigation for military officers, orienteering has developed many variations. Among these, the oldest and the most popular is foot orienteering. For the purposes of this article, foot orienteering serves as a point of departure for discussion of all other variations, but basically any sport that involves racing against a clock and requires navigation using a map is a type of orienteering.

FOSTER's

This was our first time reading this sort of map. With Mom and 4 kids ages 9, 7, 5 and 5, it was hard to figure out. We got lost 3 times and started from the beginning twice! LOL! But it was beautiful and we saw so many birds, chipmunks, squirrels and beautiful wild flowers. We finished in 1 hour and 4 minutes, but we missed 3 of the check points! LOL! IT was definitely an adventure! Let's do it again next month!

ALEX’S LEMONADE STAND FOUNDATION CELEBRATES DECADE OF STANDING FOR HOPE,
HOSTS ANNUAL LEMONADE DAYS

Sandy Residents to Host Annual Lemonade Stand

The Foster family will host their 1st Annual Alex’s Lemonade Stand as part of the National Lemonade Days weekend on Saturday, June 12, 2010 from 9am-2pm, 11242 S 1000 E, Sandy, UT. The Foster family decided to get involved To help raise money for Cancer. The Kocher family got involved because one of their 6-year-old neighbors battled stage IV neuroblastoma. After holding their first stand, the Kocher’s concluded that they would host a lemonade stand every year to contribute to the battle against childhood cancer.

Making this year even more special, 2010 marks 10 years since cancer patient Alexandra “Alex’ Scott held her first front yard lemonade stand to find a cure for all childhood cancers.

Founded by Alex Scott (1996-2004) in 2004, Lemonade Days is a three day national event that grew out of Alex's front yard lemonade stand, and is held every year over the same June weekend. During Lemonade Days, dedicated volunteers host thousands of Alex's Lemonade Stands across the country, raising over $1 million for childhood cancer research in one weekend. June 2010 will mark the 7th Annual Lemonade Days with an estimated 10,000 volunteers at over 2,000 Alex’s Lemonade Stands around the nation making a difference for children with cancer. Lemonade Days 2010 is set for June 11th, 12th and 13th!
